Three roller models integral to roadworks in Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Link Road and Riyadh City regions

Two recent road projects in the UAE have proved to be apt showcases for the prowess and diversity of Ammann’s roadbuilding machinery.

The projects, being executed by Abu Dhabi-based contractor Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport (NBHH), are in Abu Dhabi emirate’s Riyadh City and Zayed Link Road, and feature a team comprising Ammann’s tandem roller, pneumatic roller and light tandem roller in both projects.

The Ammann AV 110 X tandem roller features an articulated joint with oscillation that enables the machine to keep constant ground contact. The Ammann AP 240 Pneumatic Tyred Roller sports an innovative tyre-pressure adjustment system; and the Ammann ARX 23 Light Tandem Roller has the ability to quickly adjust from in-line to off-set configurations.

The machines were delivered to NBHH by Construction Machinery Centre (CMC), the Dubai-headquartered authorised dealer for Ammann in the UAE. CMC handed over the keys of the machines to the contractor at the start of the project and will also look after the maintenance of the machines.

According to a statement from Ammann, the Riyadh City work is essential to one of the most important housing developments in the emirate. It is part of an initiative to develop “integrated, sustainable residential communities in accordance with the highest international standards”. In total, 3,199 villas and residential units will be built on 960 hectares.

The project, to be completed in December this year, comprises infrastructure work including paving and the installation of storm sewers, natural gas lines and an irrigation network. NBHH is also handling soft and hard landscaping, establishment of a potable water network and establishment of a communications system.

The second project consists of two distinct elements: the Zayed Link Road and Tal Moreeb Road.
The Zayed Link Road project will refurbish and double the capacity of the existing link road between the E11 highway and the Madinat Zayed military airfield near the city of Madinat Zayed in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region.

Approximately 50km of road will be converted from existing single carriageway to dual carriageway - two lanes in each direction with a central median). The existing carriageway will also be refurbished.
The Tal Moreeb Road project entails a new dual carriageway from Liwa to the Tal Moreeb dune area to replace the existing road. The road length is approximately 22km. Both elements are scheduled for completion in late 2022.
